"today in the bay's" arturo santiago is live in san jose with what the city is planning to do about it and when they're planning to do it. arturo, good morning. >> reporter: the situation out here has not improved in the last few weeks. the population of the tent city in fact has swelled to more than 100 people and the city of san jose now has plans to move the encampment out the first week in march. now the site is located along spring street between taylor and heading streets. it's in a large grassy field near the guadalupe river park. the tents are spread out and clustered around trees on the land. the tent city started to grow back in january after state lands along the guadalupe river were cleaned up by caltrans and that displaced the homeless camping in those areas. mayor chuck reed says the people are trespassing here and there are no sanitary facilities and city cannot have people living i

to the 100 block of glamor city place. when they arrived they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. they were rushed to the hospital and expected to survive. police say this was a drive by shooting officers say the vehicle where the gunshots came from was a black suv. police say it appeared words were exchanged between the victims and whoever was in that suv the shooting has unsettled the people who live here. >> surprised. but i was sleeping last night and then my wife heard shots and she woke up and she was telling me that somebody got shot and i heard the cops outside. >> reporter: police say the shooting is possibly gang related. they will find out more once they interview the victims at the hospital. officers are there standing by. this is the second drive by shooting that happened over night. about one hour later a mile away near doben and jackson avenue. shots were fired in that neighborhood. we are told those bullets hit a car and home. no one was injured. they are not sure if those two drive by shootings are related. coming up later in the newscast, w

center in union city. this started in fremont yesterday afternoon after police went after a stolen mercedes-benz. the chase ends at union city's union landing shopping center after the suspect hit a tree before slamming into six parked cars. the owner of one of those cars says he was inside the movie theater at the time and had no idea his car had been hit until later. >> the person that committed this crime, you know, by hijacking the gentleman's measur mercedes called this mess while we were just enjoying a sunday at the movies. >> one woman was inside her parked car when it was hit. she was taken to the hospital for treatment. >>> palo alto police are looking for a man who reportedly tried to rob another man at gunpoint. take a look at this sketch. they say around 8:30 friday night, a man who looks like this rode up on a bicycle outside webster parking garage and pulled out a gun and then demanded cash. the victim tried to wrestle the gun away. when he couldn't, he says he managed to run away. he was not hurt. three other armed robberies have happened in palo alto in recent week

riddell live with what they will be doing. good morning. >> joint effort between redwood city school district and the police department to try to make campuses on the peninsula safer and better prepared in case an active shooter were to attack. police are now encouraging patrol officers to become familiar with the local elementary school in their words to adopt the school asking officers to visit schools in the patrol zone on a daily basis, to become familiar with teachers and students and the layout of the campus. they are asking them to review security procedures to make sure campus is best prepared at keeping a gunman from entering school grounds. it is the only school with a full-time officer. the middle schools have part-timers. educators would be trained on how to handle an active situation. training sessions scheduled for next month and april. the schools are formulating a more comprehensive emergency response plan that would include police, fire, hospitals and other first responder. in august or september police and the district will conduct a full scale drill on one of the c

scene at a shopping center in union city. it began in fremont yesterday afternoon where police went after a stolen mercedes-benz. the chase ended at union city's union landing shopping center when the suspects hit a tree. the mercedes smashed into a white nissan where a woman was sitting inside. she was taken to the hospital. the stolen car kept going slamming into five other parked cars. the owner of one of the damaged vehicles had no idea his car was involved in all this. >> the person that committed this crime by hijacking the gentleman's mercedes, caused this mess while we were just enjoying our sunday. >> fremont police later found and arrested two teenagers, a man and woman, both 18 years old. >>> following last week's sit in, five city college of san francisco students will get their meeting with the chancellor sometime today. a few dozen students occupied a campus building thursday into friday demanding an audience with the school's chancellor. the school made massive cuts in an effort to keep accreditation. students say they would like a say in those cuts and they will be s
